ANNUAL ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP AWARDS 2004

Our awards go to an individual for his/her outstanding contribution to making an environmental difference and to a group who has done much to foster environmental awareness/activism.

David Tannozzini, Electrical Engineer for the City of Newton

David Tannozzini, the City of Newton’s Electrical Engineer, s an invaluable environmental leader for the entire community. His contribution to the Energy Commission and the Sunergy Committee are unmatched in City Hall, and for this he deserves recognition. He has spearheaded countless energy projects in the City,and most recently the retrofit of Newton South High School. NSHS renovations will be completed this fall, including a 60kw photovoltaic installation and other green building features to serve as an educational center for energy alternatives and conservation. David also helped out with GD/N’s initial baseline in 1990, and is on record as a consultant for these issues in the 1980’s.

  • 1994-95 Notified all MBTA abutters of pesticide application to Green Line and rallied opposition of community, aldermen, mayor and state representative and senators
  • TURI Toxics Use Reduction Grant awarded
  • Key players to Newton becoming the first city to adopt by executive order a citywide Integrated Pest Management Policy
  • Mayor Concannon proclaimed March as Newton’s first Annual Alternative to Pesticides Month March 1998
