ENVIRONMENTAL SPEAKER SERIES Explore key local and global issues with
today's outstanding thinkers,
scientists, policy makers and visionaries. Co-sponsored with the Newton Free Library. Free to the public. 7 pm at the Newton Free Library (intersection of Homer and Walnut Streets, near City Hall). Series Coordinator: Barbara Herson What people are saying!"The Green Decade Coalition‘s speakers series provides an important public forum for citizens to hear and discuss with public officials a range of important environmental subjects. We have enjoyed co-sponsoring many of these forums, and commend Green Decade for providing citizens with objective, meaningful information on such critical issues." The Environmental Speaker Series was created in 1996 and is held monthly, January through June, usually on the third Monday of the month. Series coordinator Barbara Herson and others compile an impressive line-up of speakers on a variety of environmental issues including global warming, toxic threats, alternative power sources such as solar and wind, organic gardening, sustainable building design and many others. The series is co-sponsored with the Newton Free Library and is free to the public. Lectures begin at 7 pm in the Druker auditorium at the Newton Free Library. Past speakers include: Bill McKibben on nature, Amory Lovins on renewable energy, Juliet Schor on sustainable economics, Dianne Dumanoski on toxic threats, Dr. Paul Epstein on climate change and public health, and many more! April lectures relate to Earth Day activities in the Newton area, including innovative school projects presented by the teachers and students. Other lectures are co-sponsored with organizations including the League of Women Voters, the Newton Conservators, Charles River Watershed Association, among others.
