Green Tips
Reduce, Reuse & Recycle
- Recycle more: www.earth911.org
- Choose reusable products instead of disposable items
- Choose items made from recycled materials
- Reduce junk mail! Get off the lists at www.mass.gov/consumer
- Reuse bags, containers, envelopes & packaging -- be creative!
- Compost! Recycle leaves, grass, food scraps and paper towels into great soil for your garden!
- Reduce your use of paper -- e-mail, text messages, or visit your friends & family
- Donate your old clothes, computers, toys and other items to charities or have a yard sale
Save Energy at Home
- Ride your bike or walk to school
- Use energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs
- Turn off the lights (and TV) when you leave the room
- Wear a sweater instead of turning up the heat
- Read a book instead of watching TV or chatting on-line!
- Open a window for cool air instead of the air conditioner
- Help your family choose Energy Star® appliances for your home
- Turn off your computer when you’re at school or when you go to bed
- Unplug your cellphone charger when you’re not using it
Save Water
- Turn off the tap while you brush your teeth
- If you take a bath, fill it half-way with bubbles to use less water!
- Take shorter showers, but sing loud
- Use low-flow toilets and faucet aerators,
and water efficient shower heads.
- Run the dishwasher or washing machine only when full, or set the right water level for your load
- Make sure leaky pipes get fixed!
- Don’t flush the
toilet needlessly

What About Fuel?
- Walk or ride your bike to school at least one day a week, and to visit your friends and have fun
- Help your family choose a fuel-efficient car
- Do all your errands in one trip to save gas
- Spend a day without driving!
- Help mow the grass with a reel lawn mower, not a power mower
- Shop on-line instead of going to the mall!

- Choose clothing and items made from organic (or recycled) materials, that can be reused
- Shop local: food, products and clothing
- Organic food: tastes good - good for you!
- Take your own
reusable shopping bags, not paper or plastic
